sea duck on the west side of Whidbey?
« on: November 05, 2010, 12:56:32 PM »
Crab season is open this winter for area 6 and I was wondering if anyone hunted that area for seaducks? I am an avid sea-dukker and will take my boat from La Conner for crab and hunting (cast and blast of sorts)
Any info would be great. Also where is good for crab, never crabbed there either

There was a bunch of boat traffic out there today.  You have to be anchored up to blast, but the birds are out there.  A was watching them this morning.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Sure you have to be anchored on the west side of whidbey? I thought the regs outlined the areas that was required anchoring? Something like samish, skagit, padilla etc. Don't have a copy in front of me but I think drifting is legal out there...

I guess it is as far out as the bay extends in those areas.  Where is the cut off?  The regs call out Port Susan Bay, Skagit Bay, Padilla Bay and Samish Bay.  How far out does the bay extend?  I was commenting on the east side of Whidbey Island.  Don't know what's open on the west side.  Never wanted to venture on that side in the big water in a small boat.  I use the protection of the islands to get around.
